A two-storey building under construction on Sultan Road in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State collapsed on Friday morning, trapping four people beneath the debris.
The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026.
According to eyewitnesses, construction workers noticed signs that the structure was about to give way while they were working on the upper floor. They quickly fled the building, but four people, including a security guard and a tricycle rider, were unable to escape before the collapse.
One of the workers, Shuaibu Yaro, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, said three of the trapped victims had been rescued, while efforts were continuing to free the fourth person.
“We came to work here and had started taking sand upstairs when the site engineer noticed signs that the building was about to collapse. We all rushed to safety, but unfortunately, three people were in front of the gate and another person was trapped,” Yaro said.
He added, “Three people have been rescued, including the security guard and his friend, while one person is still trapped.”
Yaro said the rescued victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Hospital in Kano for medical treatment.
Rescue operations were still ongoing at the scene as of the time of filing this report.
