A four-year-old boy and two other people have been killed in an attack by suspected herdsmen on Omulonye community in Ugboju District, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attackers reportedly invaded the community around 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and opened fire indiscriminately.
The attack also left several residents injured, forcing many to flee to neighbouring communities for safety.
A community source said the incident caught residents unawares, adding that three people were killed as residents scrambled to escape.
The source disclosed that the mother of the four-year-old victim sustained severe injuries, while the boy’s uncle was also among those killed.
The deceased victims have reportedly been buried, while the injured were taken to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo for medical treatment.
The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Peter Aondongu, confirmed the attack and the death toll.
He added that efforts were underway to identify and arrest those responsible for the killings.
