The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two students over allegations of cyberbullying the institution’s suspended Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, James Iyanuoluwa Adio.
This was contained in a statement posted on the university’s official news portal on Friday night and signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Tajudeen Opoola, who is currently serving as Acting Vice-Chancellor.
The affected students, Alao Iyanuoluwa Odunayo and Olawale Abiodun Samuel, were accused of conspiring to cyberbully Adio by publishing his private matters online after he allegedly failed to meet their financial demands.
The university said investigations into the matter are still ongoing, but directed that the two students proceed on immediate suspension. Management added that it remains committed to maintaining discipline and protecting the institution’s reputation from conduct capable of causing reputational damage.
In the statement, the university reiterated its stance, noting that the students’ actions were considered damaging to FUOYE’s image, and reaffirmed its resolve to address any behaviour that undermines its integrity.
Meanwhile, Adio was reportedly suspended last week alongside the Deputy Director of Student Affairs over allegations related to extortion. He was accused of being indirectly involved in the collection of ₦1,000 from first-year students for practical sessions, with claims that about ₦700,000 was traced to his personal bank account.
His suspension was followed by the circulation of an explicit video allegedly linked to him, which spread widely on social media and drew the attention of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
