Bolaji Abdullahi, interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says serving governors are hesitant to join the party due to fear of intimidation from the presidency and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Saturday, July 26, during the third expanded meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (North) in Abuja, Abdullahi described the situation as part of a broader “conspiracy against the Nigerian people.”
“We know no serving governor wants to join us right now because of the kind of intimidation they’re facing. We know the pressure being mounted on them. Some governors, unable to defect to the APC, are now being accused of endorsing their presidential candidate (Tinubu). That’s fine,” he said.
“But what’s really happening is a conspiracy against Nigerians. The ADC welcomes everyone, but we believe we represent a movement supported by the majority of Nigerians who are dissatisfied with the country’s current direction.”
Abdullahi also emphasized that the ADC is not structured around any single person’s ambition, stressing the party’s commitment to transparent and people-driven politics.
“The ADC is not going to be hijacked,” he stated. “Our formation process ensures it doesn’t revolve around any individual. We don’t have a preselected candidate or any ongoing conversations about who will be the party’s flagbearer.”
He concluded by reaffirming the party’s mission: “It’s too early for that. Right now, our focus is on building a strong political platform capable of delivering the change we envision for Nigeria.”
