Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has rejected rumors that he is secretly harboring presidential ambitions for 2027, dismissing them as “another lie from idle minds.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 18, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike denied claims that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders are pressuring him to run in the next presidential election, calling the speculation completely unfounded.
“The claim is another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country,” the statement said.

The former Rivers State governor reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing his support for the president’s re-election campaign.
“The Minister has made it clear where he stands regarding the 2027 presidential election — he is with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Olayinka stated. He added, “Wike is transparent in his actions and words. It is unfortunate that those intent on undermining him resort to such childish tactics. They clearly need better strategies.”
Responding to reports of a supposed PDP strategy meeting, Olayinka clarified that the only meeting held on August 20, 2025, was attended by PDP stakeholders from the southern region and was unrelated to any presidential ambition.
“The only meeting on August 20, 2025, involved PDP southern stakeholders discussing a separate meeting scheduled for Lagos on August 21, 2025, where some party members planned to endorse the micro-zoning of party positions to the South,” Olayinka explained.
