The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Prof. Bernard Odo, was targeted by suspected assassins in a recent attack.

According to reports, Odo, who was the Secretary to the State Government during Governor David Umahi’s first term, was returning from a campaign stop in Agba when his convoy was ambushed at the Rest House area along the Enugu/Abakaliki Expressway.

The attackers, who were parked in a Sienna minivan, opened fire on Odo’s vehicle as soon as they sighted it. Although Odo managed to escape the attack, his driver was unfortunately killed, and his orderly and three others sustained bullet wounds. This was the second major attempt on Odo’s life, according to Godwin Chinonso, a former Personal Assistant to Odo. The attackers also burned Odo’s pilot vehicle.

The identities of the assailants are yet to be determined. Efforts to reach the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer for comment were unsuccessful.
