Gunmen have kidnapped HRH David Wada, a second-class traditional ruler and District Head of Bagaji Odo in Omala Local Government Area, Kogi State.

The monarch was abducted around 5 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2025.

Reports say HRH Wada was returning from a traditional council meeting in Abejukolo, the Omala LGA headquarters, when he was intercepted at Ojuwo Ugweche at gunpoint and forcibly taken into the bush.

Locals revealed that the monarch was being escorted by a motorcycle rider, who narrowly escaped the attack.

Ojuwo Ugweche, an area known for frequent kidnappings, is usually guarded by vigilante groups and security personnel. However, no security operatives were present at the time of the incident.

The paramount ruler of Omala LGA, HRH Boniface Musa (Onu Ife), confirmed the kidnapping and appealed to security agencies for the safe rescue of the traditional ruler.

The State Police Command spokesperson, SP Williams Aya, also confirmed the incident, stating that security forces, including hunters and vigilantes, have been deployed to comb the bush in a bid to secure HRH Wada’s release.
