The abductors of two students from the Federal University Wukari in Taraba State have demanded a ransom of N50 million for their release.

Joshua Sardauna and Obianu Elizabeth were taken captive at a restaurant within the school premises on Monday, April 1, 2024, around 10:00 pm.

Mrs. Ashu Agbu, the Head of Information and Protocol Unit at the institution, confirmed the ransom demand during a telephone conversation with journalists on Sunday. She revealed that the abductors specified they had targeted the eatery owner and not his staff, indicating their intention to return for him. The ransom demand for the release of the two students is N50 million.

In response to the incident, security agencies and local youths have launched extensive search efforts in the surrounding forests and bush paths to apprehend the kidnappers. These efforts will continue until the abducted students are safely rescued alive.

Agbu also disclosed plans for an expanded meeting scheduled for Monday, April 8, involving security agencies, as well as representatives from local, state, and federal government levels. The aim of the meeting is to devise a comprehensive strategy to address the security challenges facing the institution and ensure the safety of its students and staff.
