Bandits unleashed gunfire on motorists along the Gusau – Talata Mafara highway near Dogon Karfe in Zamfara State. The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
According to Bello Saleh, a resident of Maru town near the site of the attack, the assailants, stationed on both sides of the highway, initiated the attack as soon as the first vehicle approached, firing from both sides of the road. The assault involved about seven vehicles. Saleh informed Premium Times that several passengers were abducted during the attack, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Describing the aftermath, Saleh stated, “The wounded passengers were abandoned by the terrorists, and they took away those that could walk. One of the wounded passengers we helped to convey to the hospital on my motorcycle continued shouting that his wife and child were abducted. We’ve taken at least seven people to the general hospital (Maru).”
The exact number of those abducted remains uncertain, as many individuals who have not been accounted for are believed to have been taken. “We don’t know the actual number of people taken, but they’re many,” added Mr. Saleh.
