NDLEA apprehends 75-year-old woman on charges of drug trafficking.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 75-year-old woman, Sekinat Soremekun, for engaging in illicit drug activities in Lagos State. The arrest took place in the Oshodi area of Lagos on Friday, December 15, 2023, as disclosed by Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for the anti-drug agency, in a statement released on Sunday, December 17.

During the arrest, quantities of cannabis and liters of codeine syrup were seized from the 75-year-old woman. Babafemi mentioned that she asserted her son, Segun, who is currently on the run, supplied her with the illegal substances that she then sold.

The statement emphasized, “Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Lagos on Friday 15th December arrested a 75-year-old grandma, Mrs. Sekinat Soremekun for dealing in illicit drugs. At the time of her arrest in Oshodi area of Lagos, quantities of cannabis and liters of codeine syrup were recovered from her. She claimed her son, Segun who is now at large supplied her the illicit substances which she retailed.”

Babafemi also quoted the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), urging the anti-drug agency officers to heighten their offensive actions against drug cartels as the yuletide season approaches, maintaining a balanced approach with their efforts in reducing drug demand.
