Panic gripped the University of Jos (UNIJOS) community on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, after the headless body of a middle-aged man was found on a farmland within the institution’s permanent site.
Pius Atok, a 300-level student at the university, confirmed the discovery to *Vanguard*, stating that the body was found Tuesday morning. “From what we gathered, the victim was neither a student nor a member of staff of the university,” Atok said.
A senior university official, speaking off the record as they were not authorized to comment publicly, said preliminary findings suggest the deceased was a local farmer who regularly cultivated crops on the farmland.
“The victim is known to people around the area because he usually comes there to farm. We believe he came very early this morning, as he normally does,” the official said. “What actually happened is still unclear, but from the nature of the attack, it appears those responsible came specifically to kill him and made away with his head.”
The official added that the victim’s relatives have been contacted and arrangements are being made to remove the body. The university management is aware of the incident and an official statement is expected from its Information Directorate.
The Plateau State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
