Christabel Isaac, a house help, was arraigned before the Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing $1,200 (approximately N1.8 million) from her employer.
Isaac, who resides in Wanba, Nasarawa State, faces a charge of theft to which she pleaded not guilty. Prosecutor Charity Nwachukwu informed the court on Tuesday that the complainant, Mrs. Loveth Ayoade of Efab Estate, Galadima, Abuja, reported the incident to Gwarimpa Police Station on August 30.
According to Ayoade, Isaac stole the money from her husband’s room. It was alleged that the defendant gave $800 of the stolen amount to two individuals, Michael Genesis and Rilwan Garba, both residents of Efab Queens Estate, to convert into naira.
During the police investigation, Isaac reportedly made a confessional statement, and N200,000 was recovered from her. However, efforts to recover the remaining balance have been unsuccessful.
Magistrate Ramilatu Halilu granted Isaac bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties of the same amount and adjourned the case to October 2 for hearing.
