INEC declares Aiyedatiwa the winner of the Ondo governorship election.

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo State, has been declared the winner of the state’s governorship election.

The Returning Officer, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, announced the results on Sunday. Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged victorious with 366,781 votes, defeating his closest rival, Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Aiyedatiwa’s decisive victory extends his tenure at the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure.

“Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Professor Akinwumi announced at 2:30 pm at the INEC collation center in Akure.

Aiyedatiwa, who was formerly the deputy governor, assumed office on December 27, 2023, following the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
