The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that due to security challenges, the 2025/2026 continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise will not take place at the headquarters of four local government areas (LGAs) in Borno State—Abadam, Guzamala, Kala-Balge, and Marte.
Borno Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji, made this known during a press briefing in Maiduguri on Friday, August 15. He explained that for safety reasons, in-person registration for voters from these LGAs will be conducted at designated sites within Maiduguri metropolis.
Residents from Abadam are to register at Yerwa Peace, Baga Road; those from Guzamala at the Fire Service Department, 1,000 Housing Estate; Kala-Balge residents at Goni Kachallari Primary School, Mafa Road; and Marte residents at Kachamari, opposite Shettiram Filling Station, Gamboru-Ngala Road—all locations within Maiduguri.
Ma’aji also detailed the CVR schedule, which will be conducted in three phases: Phase 1 runs from August 28 to December 10, with the register displayed between December 15 and 21; Phase 2 from January 5 to April 17, 2026, with register display from April 20 to 26; and Phase 3 from May 4 to August 17, with the register displayed between August 24 and 30, 2026.
Calling the registration a national civic responsibility, Ma’aji assured that every eligible citizen will have the opportunity to participate. He also appealed for continued media collaboration and public support, promising regular updates throughout the exercise.
