INEC elevates 55 directors and advances 5,141 staff members in a recent promotion exercise.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has undertaken the promotion of 5,196 of its staff members nationwide, as outlined in a bulletin released on Thursday, December 28. According to the provided details, 55 Deputy Directors on Grade Level 16 have been elevated to the position of Directors on Grade Level 17, while 54 Assistant Directors on GL 15 have advanced to the Deputy Director Cadre on GL 16.

Additionally, the commission has promoted 338 officers on GL 14 to Assistant Directors on GL 15, with the majority of promotions affecting 4,749 officers ranging from GL 7 to 13. The decision to carry out these promotions was in compliance with a directive from the Federal Government, as conveyed through a circular issued on July 27, 2023.

The circular specified that all directors with eight years or more of service were required to retire from the public sector. Notably, Clinical Officers in the Medical cadre were exempted from the Federal Government Retirement Policy, as clarified in Circular MH 7205/T31 dated September 7, 2023, according to the statement issued by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
