The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise will now take place after the 2027 general elections.
The decision was reached following a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held on Friday, April 10.
In a statement issued by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the commission emphasized that the voter revalidation process remains an essential part of its responsibility to maintain a reliable and up-to-date National Register of Voters.
He explained that the exercise is intended to review and verify existing voter records, ensure the accuracy of personal information, remove duplicate or ineligible entries, and enhance the credibility of the voter database. It will also give registered voters the chance to confirm and update their details where necessary.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting elections that are free, fair, credible, and inclusive.
