Insecurity Increasing Because Election Is Coming, Says Akpabio

Godswill Akpabio has linked the recent surge in insecurity across the country to the build-up to the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Nigerian Revenue Service Corporate Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Akpabio praised Bola Tinubu, stating that the administration’s performance has unsettled its opponents, who he alleged are now sponsoring insecurity.

He expressed confidence that the situation would improve shortly after the elections.
“Insecurity is increasing because elections are approaching, as some people don’t know what else to do. But immediately after the election—within two weeks—it will subside. It is being sponsored,” he said.

Akpabio also took a swipe at the opposition, describing it as disorganized, and appeared to reference Peter Obi over his political moves since the last election.

Calling for patience, the Senate President urged Nigerians to support the current administration, insisting it is on the right path.

“Let Nigerians be patient with you; you are doing the right thing,” he added.

He further commended Zacch Adedeji, describing him as a rare tax official who enjoys public approval.
“Even in the Bible, tax collectors are not liked, but Zacch has done very well, and Nigerians appreciate him,” he said.

Other dignitaries present at the event included Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, alongside President Tinubu, who officially commissioned the complex.
