Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel issued the punishment after Yusuf pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and assault.

Emmanuel noted the court’s leniency due to the defendant’s admission of guilt, which saved time. He also warned Yusuf to avoid such behavior in the future, stating the court would not be as lenient if it occurred again.

In addition to the corporal punishment, the court ordered Yusuf to pay the complainant, Abubakar Haruna, N230,000 in restitution.

Earlier, Prosecutor Insp. Chidi Leo told the court that Haruna, who lives in the same compound as the defendant, reported the incident at the Gabasawa Police Station on February 16. Haruna had previously borrowed money from Yusuf but was unable to repay it when requested. This led to a confrontation between the two men.

Leo further explained that Yusuf then enlisted four accomplices, who are still at large, and trespassed into Haruna’s room, assaulting him, destroying property worth N50,000, and stealing a phone valued at N180,000.

The prosecutor stated that the actions violated the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
