The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi State, has expelled six students for gross examination misconduct after they were found to have rewritten an examination at a lecturer’s private residence.
The decision was reached during the university’s 167th Regular Senate Meeting held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the university auditorium.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale.
According to the statement, university authorities acted on July 1, 2026, after receiving credible information that a lecturer was facilitating the rewriting of an examination at his residence.
Security operatives subsequently arrested Dr Maji Okpanachi of the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, alongside some students, at his residence behind the Police Area Command Office along Idah Road, Anyigba. Several exhibits were also recovered.
The matter was later referred to the university’s Examination Misconduct Committee, which confirmed the allegations through its investigations, including statements made by the lecturer and students involved.
The committee found that the students had rewritten BOT102 (Introduction to Plant Science), days after the original examination, at the lecturer’s residence. Each of the affected students reportedly paid N10,000 to the lecturer to participate in the arrangement.
After considering the committee’s report, the Senate approved the expulsion of the six students from the university.
The Senate also resolved to refer Dr Okpanachi to the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for appropriate disciplinary action in line with the university’s rules and regulations.
