Renowned Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 or KWAM1, has issued a formal apology following an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
In a statement personally signed by the artist, KWAM1 extended his sincere apologies to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet Airlines, and concerned Nigerians.
While expressing regret over the situation, the singer firmly denied allegations that he carried alcohol in his flask, clarifying that it contained only water.
“The incident that occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5, 2025, involving my humble self and ValueJet Airline, was, to say the least, unfortunate,” he stated.
KWAM1 explained that he suffers from chronic dehydration and, on medical advice, always carries a water flask. He emphasized that the flask was empty during security checks and was only filled with water at the airport lounge prior to boarding. He added that CCTV footage from the lounge could verify this claim.
He also addressed reports suggesting he was removed from the aircraft, clarifying: “I hadn’t even boarded the plane, let alone being deboarded.”
Acknowledging the concerns raised, the veteran musician expressed deep regret, stressing that he had no intention of breaching aviation protocols or causing disruption.
“My unwavering patriotism and unshaken loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria have never been in doubt,” he said. “I have always used my platform to promote the Nigerian brand globally and would never act in a way that could tarnish the reputation I’ve built over the past five decades.”
Concluding his statement, KWAM1 reiterated his commitment to upholding the values of his profession and offered an “unreserved and heartfelt apology” to all affected parties, including his fans worldwide.
