UEFA has fined Barcelona stars Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski €5,000 each for breaching Anti-Doping Regulations following the club’s UEFA Champions League semi-final second-leg match against Inter Milan in Italy.
The sanctions stem from the players’ failure to comply with Article 21.8 and Article 21.10(a) of the UEFA Anti-Doping Regulations, which require players to follow the instructions of the Doping Control Officer and proceed immediately to the Doping Control Station after the match.
Barcelona lost the match 4-3 after extra time, resulting in their elimination from the competition.
In addition, Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has been fined €20,000 and handed a one-match suspension from UEFA club competitions for breaching the general principles of conduct (Article 11(1) DR) and violating the basic rules of decent behavior (Article 11(2)(b) DR). His assistant, Marcus Sorg, has received the same punishment for identical offenses.
Both coaches will miss Barcelona’s next European fixture, as the sanctions take immediate effect.
Barcelona has also been fined €5,250 for fan misconduct involving the throwing of objects (Article 16(2)(b) DR) and €2,500 for the use of fireworks (Article 16(2)(c) DR) during the same match.
