The Lagos state government has closed down Katangua and Oke Afa markets due to violations of environmental sanitation standards.

The decision to shut these markets was made in response to issues such as uncleanliness and various environmental infractions. Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, officially confirmed the closure of both markets on Sunday, January 21.

In a statement, Ajayi explained, “Katangua market was sealed today, 21st January 2024, by the monitoring and compliance team of LAWMA due to gross environmental sanitation violations. Oke Afa market in Isolo was also sealed up today, 21st January 2024, due to environmental sanitation and poor waste disposal practices by the Monitoring and Compliance Department.”
