The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested Awwalu Aliyu over the alleged murder of his ex-wife in Taura Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna A. Yahaya, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday, April 20, 2026.

The victim’s lifeless body was discovered on April 3, 2026, on the outskirts of Gurjawa village.

According to the police, investigations revealed that Aliyu, alongside one Hudu Alhassan, had earlier taken the victim under the pretense of escorting her to her family home.

The Commissioner explained that at about 7:30 a.m. on the day of the incident, a report was received at the Gujungu Division about a body found near Gurjawa village. A patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene, where the body was recovered and taken to a hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.

Preliminary findings showed that the deceased was last seen with her former husband, Awwalu Aliyu, a resident of Yalleman village.

Further investigation revealed that an okada rider, Umar Suleiman, had lent his motorcycle to Aliyu, and bloodstains were later found on the bike, raising suspicion and leading to his arrest.

Police said continued investigation established that Aliyu and his accomplice had taken the victim toward Gurjawa village before Aliyu reportedly dropped Alhassan along the way and continued the journey alone with the victim, after which the crime was allegedly committed.

Both suspects have since been charged to court.
