
The lifeless body of an unidentified man was recovered from the Asa River in Ilorin, Kwara State, by operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service.
The man, believed to be around 45 years old, was found on the night of Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Authorities were alerted to the body floating in the river by officials from the state Ministry of Environment, who immediately notified the Fire Service.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 23, the spokesperson for the State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed that a team of firefighters was quickly deployed to the scene to prevent any potential environmental hazards. The body was successfully retrieved from the river.
The Ministry of Environment, which received the body, is now awaiting formal identification and any claims from the deceased’s family.
Kwara State Fire Service Director, Falade Olumuyiwa, took the opportunity to remind residents of the importance of safety in daily activities and urged parents to avoid sending underage children to fetch water from wells.
