Military personnel have captured a prison escapee from Jos in Enugu.

In a statement released on Saturday, October 21, 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu, representing Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA II, disclosed that troops from Sector 1 had successfully apprehended Chimezie Chukwu, an escapee from the Jos Prison break, in Enugu State.

The arrest took place during a raid on a suspected hideout of the Indigenous People of Biafra and their armed associates, the Eastern Security Network, located in Ugbakwa Village in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The statement reported: “In the course of the raid, which was conducted on Friday, October 20, 2023, troops of Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA II, in collaboration with the Department of State Security Enugu State Command, successfully apprehended Mr. Chimezie Chukwu, also known as Biggi. He is an escapee from the Jos Prison Break and is known to be involved in drug peddling, gunrunning, and armed robbery.”

The items recovered from him included six mobile phones, three mobile phone batteries, a Moniepoint POS machine, an ATM card, two packets of substances suspected to be cannabis, and the sum of One Hundred and Seven Thousand, Two Hundred and Eighty Naira.

The suspect, along with the recovered items, has been handed over to the Department of State Security (DSS) for further investigation.
