At least 150 suspected bandits are feared to have drowned after a boat carrying them capsized in the Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State.

Local sources informed security analyst Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, March 21, 2026, when the vessel—reportedly transporting a large group of armed men—overturned while crossing a body of water.

According to the sources, the boat was heavily loaded when it suddenly capsized, throwing all those on board into the water.

“Early reports suggest many of the occupants were unable to swim, resulting in significant loss of life,” one source said.

Initial accounts indicate that there may have been no survivors, although security agencies have yet to officially confirm the incident as of the time of this report.

If verified, the incident could deal a major setback to criminal groups operating in parts of Nigeria’s North-West, the analyst noted.
