Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to 50 months in prison following his conviction on prostitution-related charges, marking a dramatic fall from grace for the once-revered entertainment icon.

The 55-year-old appeared somber in a Manhattan courtroom on Friday, reportedly lowering his head as U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian handed down the sentence. Members of Combs’ family were seen weeping in the gallery during the proceedings.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Subramanian imposed a $500,000 fine, condemning Combs for what he described as the “savage” abuse of his former partner, singer Cassie Ventura. The judge emphasized that the sentence was intended as a message of accountability, citing the “irreparable harm” caused to victims.

“Deterrence requires a significant sentence,” the judge stated, highlighting that Combs continued to host so-called “freak offs” even after being subjected to search warrants and intense public scrutiny. “You abused the power and control you had over the lives of women you professed to love dearly. Why did it go on so long? Because you had the power and resources to keep it going.”

Though Combs had previously been cleared of sex trafficking and racketeering charges in July, Judge Subramanian ruled that evidence from those allegations would still be considered during sentencing.

Prosecutors argued that Combs showed no remorse, pointing to scheduled speaking engagements he had arranged for the following Monday in Miami—an indication, they said, that he didn’t expect to face further jail time.

His defense attorney, Nicole Westmoreland, delivered an emotional plea for leniency, becoming visibly upset as she referenced Combs’ 2004 Menswear Designer of the Year award from the American Fashion Council. “It wasn’t just about an award—it was about breaking barriers,” she said tearfully.
