Nigerian singer Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, popularly known as Joeboy, has revealed that he supports early marriage and hopes to settle down young and raise a family away from the public eye.
The 29-year-old singer made the disclosure during an interview on the Cocktails & Takeaways podcast hosted by British media personality Madame Joyce.
Joeboy said his view on early marriage was partly influenced by comments made by Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson, who previously expressed regret over not getting married earlier despite his reputation as a playboy.
According to Joeboy, seeing someone with Egbuson’s public image admit that he wished he had married earlier made him reconsider the idea of settling down young.
The singer, however, stressed that marriage should not be determined solely by age, but by genuine love and finding the right partner.
He said getting married young to someone one truly loves can be fulfilling, adding that there is nothing wrong with being 40 and having a 16-year-old child.
Speaking about his own plans, Joeboy said he would prefer to keep his marriage private if he eventually settles down soon.
He revealed that the public might not even know about his marriage until he has already built a sizeable family.
Joeboy said he could get married without making the announcement publicly, adding that people might only discover years later that he has a wife and several children.
