A Nigerian correctional officer in the United States, Michael Oluwapelumi Ademoye, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into a prison facility in Texas.

Ademoye, 28, is a correctional officer at the Wynne Unit, a prison operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). He was arrested on September 26, 2026, by the TDCJ Office of the Inspector General.

According to a show-cause statement, Ademoye allegedly entered the prison carrying paper treated with synthetic cannabinoids, commonly known as K2, which he intended to deliver to an inmate.

The statement alleges that Ademoye was carrying more than four grams of the drug-treated paper when he entered the facility. During questioning, he reportedly told investigators that he planned to deliver the substance to a specific inmate and had already been paid to do so.

Ademoye faces charges of drug manufacturing or delivery and bribery in connection with the allegations.

Records from the Walker County Jail show that he was being held on a $100,000 bond for the drug-related charge and a $50,000 bond on the bribery charge.

Employment records indicate that TDCJ hired Ademoye in April 2025.

His arrest comes about three months after the Wynne Unit publicly praised Ademoye and six other cadets for their “dedication and commitment.” In a Facebook post in June, the facility said the cadets had quickly adapted to their roles and were making a positive impact.

The allegations against Ademoye remain subject to the legal process.
