Nigerians took to social media to react after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on September 2, recalled Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as the Director-General (DG) of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), just days after appointing Rotimi Pedro to the position.

On August 20, the Presidency had announced Pedro as the new DG of NTA, while Stella Din was appointed as the Executive Director of News.

However, in a statement released this evening, Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga announced a reversal of that decision, confirming the reappointment of Dembos as DG of NTA.

Onanuga explained that Dembos was originally appointed DG of the TV network by President Tinubu in October 2023. He stated,
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the recall of Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), who briefly vacated the post following some management changes in the agency. He will now return to complete his three-year tenure.”

Similarly, the President directed the recall of Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, to continue his three-year tenure ending in 2027. Adewuyi was appointed by President Tinubu in 2024.

Onanuga added that this new directive effectively reverses the previously announced appointments for the DG, Executive Director of News, Executive Director of Marketing, and Managing Director of NTA Enterprises.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have flooded social media with reactions, with many criticizing the reversal of the appointments just days after they were made, calling it an unsettling development.
