Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has filed a lawsuit in a Lagos High Court seeking his immediate reinstatement.
Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13, 2025, is challenging the legality of his impeachment and requesting that the court nullify the decision and reinstate him as Speaker.
According to Vanguard, the lawsuit, filed on Thursday, February 13, names the current Speaker, Lasbat Mojisola Meranda, and the Lagos State House of Assembly as defendants.
Obasa argues that the plenary session in which his impeachment occurred was not properly convened, making the proceedings unconstitutional. He claims that lawmakers met during a recess without formally reconvening, thereby violating constitutional provisions and the Assembly’s standing orders.
The lawsuit asserts that the impeachment was carried out outside of legal procedures and should be invalidated. The case has not yet been assigned to a judge, and no hearing date has been set.
