The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Senator Gbenga Daniel, former governor of the state, along with his close ally Kunle Folarin, over allegations of anti-party activities.

In a statement released by the party’s spokesperson, Nuberu Olufemi, the suspension was ratified by the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) following disciplinary actions initiated by their respective wards on Tuesday, August 19.

Olufemi explained that Ward 4 in Shagamu Local Government Area set up a disciplinary committee to investigate alleged misconduct against Daniel, accusing him of anti-party behavior. Daniel was invited to appear before the committee to respond to the allegations but failed to do so.

“They were invited in writing to attend disciplinary meetings to present their defense or seek pardon from the party. However, both individuals ignored the invitations, did not submit any written defense, and failed to attend the hearings,” Olufemi said.

The committees proceeded with the investigation in their absence, gathering witness statements and documentary evidence. Furthermore, it was reported that Daniel and Folarin allegedly harassed party members and pressured them not to cooperate with the disciplinary process, using their positions within the party to influence outcomes.

“To protect the integrity of the investigation and prevent interference, the committees resolved to suspend both members indefinitely, pending the conclusion of inquiries,” the spokesperson added.

The SWC’s ratification of the suspensions underscores the party’s commitment to discipline and adherence to its constitution.

Speculation has linked the suspension to ongoing tensions between Gbenga Daniel and the current Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.
