
The Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed off a construction site following a serious crane accident that occurred during crane operations at the location.
Preliminary investigations by the Commission’s officials, who promptly responded to the scene, revealed that the crane operator, Rotimi Adesina, suffered fatal injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Lekki Phase 1, where he later passed away.
Safety officials reported that the Project Manager, Hein Coerzer, and the Company Secretary, Ndidi Uchechukwu, have been engaged regarding the incident and asked to provide documentation related to the crane. All relevant documents are reportedly held at the company’s head office.
The company has been instructed to submit all necessary paperwork concerning the crane and overall project operations for a thorough review by the Commission.
Lanre Mojola, Director-General of the Safety Commission, ordered the construction site to be sealed and an abatement notice issued to eliminate any immediate danger and ensure the safety of all workers on-site.
Mojola emphasized that protecting lives is paramount and that safety precautions must never be compromised. He assured the public that further updates will be shared as the investigation continues.
The Director-General also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to preventing such tragic incidents through strict enforcement of safety regulations.
