The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested Chukwuma Onwe, a middle-aged man from Nwezenyi Ibeagu in Izzi Local Government Area, for allegedly selling his five-day-old baby boy for N1.5 million.

Spokesperson of the state police command, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the arrest to newsmen, revealing that the baby was recovered from the buyer, Mrs. Chinyere Ugochukwu. Both Onwe and the buyer were apprehended on Friday in the Azugwu area of Abakaliki Local Government Area.

“Mr. Chukwuma Onwe sold his five-day-old son to Mrs. Chinyere Ugochukwu for N1.5 million. He took the child away from his wife, Mrs. Philomena Iroko, under the pretense of taking the baby for treatment, but instead sold him,” SP Ukandu explained.

He added that Onwe had falsely told his wife that he had given the child to his sister for care.

The police are continuing investigations into the case, and the baby has since been reunited with his biological mother.
