Mentally Unstable Woman Fatally Attacks Female IDP in Borno

The Borno State Police Command has arrested a woman suspected to be mentally unstable for allegedly killing a fellow internally displaced person (IDP) in Monguno Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the incident occurred on October 10, 2025, at approximately 4:35 p.m., when one Modu Kolomi, a resident of the RRR IDP Camp, reported that a woman identified as Yagana Zara (40), from the Water Board IDP Camp, attacked his wife, Yagana Abba Butu (30), with a wooden stirrer.

The suspect allegedly inflicted severe injuries on the victim, leading to fatal internal trauma. Security operatives in Monguno responded swiftly, rescuing the suspect from a mob and evacuating the victim to the General Hospital, Monguno, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the victim’s body was deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy and later released to her family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Sources revealed that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Maiduguri has commenced an investigation. Meanwhile, the suspect has been transferred to a state psychiatric facility for mental health evaluation.
