Resident Doctors in Nigeria have announced plans to commence a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike effective November 1, 2025.
The decision was disclosed by the President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr. Mohammed Usman Suleiman, while presenting a communiqué issued at the end of the association’s Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting. He instructed members to conduct ward rounds and hand over their patients to consultants in preparation for the industrial action.
Among the association’s 19-point demands are the immediate payment of specialist allowances to all doctors, in recognition of their crucial role in providing specialist healthcare services across the country. NARD also called for the correction of all entry-level placements to ensure doctors are positioned on their appropriate salary grades, as well as the decentralisation and streamlining of promotion and upgrading processes to improve efficiency in both training and clinical service delivery.
