A 35-year-old scavenger, Suleiman Adams, has been brought before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court over the alleged theft of cable wires and electrical equipment valued at N1.5 million.

He was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

According to the prosecution, Adams and another suspect who is still at large allegedly conspired to commit the offence on March 10, 2026, around 1:50 p.m. at Bolcent Oil and Gas Filling Station, Shasha Market, along the Akure-Owo Express Road, within the Akure Magisterial District.

The defendant is accused of stealing cable wires and other electrical materials worth N1.5 million, said to belong to Gbenga Bajulaye, the owner of the filling station.

The prosecutor stated that the offences violate Sections 516 and 390(4)(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, who is prosecuting the case, requested an adjournment to allow time to assemble witnesses.

Adams, who had no legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Sunday Adedapo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N750,000, with one surety in the same amount.

The surety must provide proof of current tax payment and submit two passport photographs, while their residence will be verified by court officers.

Pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions, the defendant was remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Facility.

The case has been adjourned until April 11, 2026, for further hearing.
