There was a brief fire scare at the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday, June 10, after a fire broke out in the Senate wing of the complex, prompting swift intervention by lawmakers and officials who worked together to contain the situation.

The incident occurred at Hearing Room 107 shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) concluded the screening of Dr. Zainab Marwa, the nominee representing the North-East geopolitical zone on the commission’s board.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire may have been caused by a microwave oven left on in the kitchen area adjacent to the hearing room.

No casualties or injuries were reported, as the quick response helped bring the situation under control. Normal legislative activities resumed shortly after the incident.
