A Sharia Court in Kano on Friday, August 1, sentenced 35-year-old Sabiu Abdullahi to 50 strokes of the cane for stealing five roofing sheets.
Abdullahi, a resident of Mariri Quarters, Kano, was charged with trespass and theft under Sections 134 and 287 of the Kano State Penal Code Law. He pleaded guilty to the offenses.
Prosecution Counsel, Zahradeen Abubakar, informed the court that the complainant, Anas Yakubu of Tamburawa Quarters, reported the theft to Mariri Police Station on July 21.
Abubakar explained that the defendant unlawfully entered the complainant’s residence during his absence and stole the roofing sheets.
In his ruling, the court judge, Malam Umar Lawal, ordered that Abdullahi be caned 50 times as punishment.
