Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has sanctioned the appointment of 18 new permanent secretaries across various ministries in the state. Among those selected are Adebayo Ojeyinka from Osun State and Joachin Achor from Abia State, with the remaining 16 appointees originating from Anambra State.

The announcement was made in a press release issued by the governor’s press secretary, Christian Aburime, on Friday, March 8. Aburime emphasized that the appointments were made based on merit, following a rigorous and transparent selection process. This process involved a computer-based examination, a thorough search procedure, and individual interactions with the governor.

According to the statement, the one-on-one interactions enabled a deeper understanding of the candidates’ goals, vision, and alignment with the state government’s objectives, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation. The shift towards transparency aimed to uphold principles of fairness, equal opportunity, and the identification of the most qualified candidates.

The groundbreaking move by Soludo underscores his commitment to dismantling barriers and promoting inclusivity in Anambra State. The inclusion of younger, highly productive civil servants based on their exceptional abilities signifies a departure from traditional practices.

Furthermore, the appointment of non-indigenes and individuals from other states demonstrates a willingness to harness talent from across the country, rather than confining opportunities to Anambra natives alone. Particularly noteworthy is the appointment of Ojeyinka from Osun State, which breaks the convention of reserving top civil service positions for indigenes. This decision reinforces the message that Anambra State is open to all, regardless of their state of origin.
