Two schools in the Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River state have been shut down due to a measles outbreak, as confirmed by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk. The affected schools are Navy Secondary School and Penniel Primary School, both situated in the same vicinity. Dr. Ayuk stated that the State Rapid Response Team from the Ministry of Health has been mobilized and dispatched to the affected area. He added, “Reactive vaccination for children is ongoing in the affected areas and in other local government areas where there are no reported cases.” Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, he highlighted the highly contagious nature of measles, particularly among non-immunized children, urging parents and caregivers to ensure their children receive routine immunizations to safeguard against such outbreaks.
