Four suspects, including two police officers, have been arrested in connection with a series of ‘blue light’ robberies involving truck hijackings and carjackings in Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa.
The arrests followed a law enforcement operation based on intelligence linking the officers to the crimes. Police spokesperson Col Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that the two officers were brought in for questioning, which then led authorities to two additional civilian suspects.
“Information gathered during the interviews led police to two more civilians, who were found in possession of three firearms and signal jamming devices,” Nevhuhulwi stated.
Gauteng provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Tommy Mthombeni commended the investigation team for their dedication in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“It is disheartening to see those entrusted with upholding the law collaborating with criminals to terrorize our communities. This arrest should serve as a strong warning to the few bad apples within the police force that the law will always catch up with them,” said Mthombeni.
