Human rights activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore has been released from police custody after spending several days in detention in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Sowore’s release follows his re-arrest by officers led by CSP Ilyasu Barau, Head of the Anti-Vice Unit under the FCT Command’s DC-CID, at the Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja, while his legal team was finalizing his bail conditions.
He was freed alongside Aloy Ejimakor, a lawyer representing Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB); Prince Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s brother; and ten other individuals.
Their release came after fulfilling bail conditions that required a ₦500,000 bond each and two sureties in the same amount.
The group had earlier been arrested for allegedly violating court orders restricting the #FreeNnamdiKanu protests from taking place on specific routes, particularly those leading to key government areas within the FCT.
