Troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have arrested a 30-year-old man, Yahaya Mohammed, who is suspected of having links to a kidnapping syndicate operating in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. Mohammed was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, following a report about the movement of suspected kidnappers who had allegedly collected ransom from their victims. According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, troops intercepted Mohammed in a forested area, where he was allegedly found carrying a bag containing N1.925 million in cash. During preliminary questioning, the suspect reportedly claimed that the money was proceeds from the sale of cattle. However, security sources said he was unable to provide sufficient evidence to support the claim. Mohammed remains in military custody as investigations continue to determine the source of the money and establish whether he has any connection to kidnapping activities in the area. The authorities are expected to take further action based on the outcome of the investigation.
