Comedian Seyi Law has sparked a debate on social media after taking to Instagram to mock Peter Obi over his long-standing claims about the financial state of Anambra State when he left office as governor.
Obi, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has frequently highlighted his record of financial prudence, claiming that he left more than $150 million and N36 billion in investments and savings in the state’s coffers when his tenure ended in March 2014.
In a direct swipe at Obi, Seyi Law shared an old newspaper clipping reporting that Bola Ahmed Tinubu left N27 billion in the Lagos State treasury when he completed his tenure as governor in May 2007.
Taking aim at what he described as Obi’s political strategy, Seyi Law noted that Tinubu has never used the figure as a campaign talking point, adding, “Some people will not allow us rest.”
The post has since generated a wave of reactions online. While some users supported Seyi Law’s position, others challenged the comparison, arguing that the tenures of Peter Obi in Anambra and Bola Tinubu in Lagos were shaped by different economic conditions and circumstances.
