On Monday, November 6, a Court of Appeal in Abuja confirmed Orji Uzor Kalu, the former Governor of Abia state, as the victorious candidate for Abia North Senatorial District. Justice Abiri, the presiding judge in the case brought forward by the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Nnamdi Iro Orji, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Mao Ohabunwa, declared that the appeal lacked substance. The court determined that Senator Kalu had adhered to the provisions of the Electoral Act and dismissed the arguments made by both petitioners regarding the alleged non-conduct of elections in more than 120 polling units, primarily in Ohafia and Arochukwu local government areas within the district.
