Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has opened up about her personal views on marriage, revealing that she has turned down multiple proposals over the years because she hasn’t found the right partner.

In a recent interview, the 52-year-old actress shared her perspective:

“For me not to have found my partner—the person I want to spend the rest of my life with—I don’t see it as a negative. I’ve been proposed to many times, and I’ve said no.”

Akintola also addressed the societal pressure placed on women to marry, cautioning against rushing into marriage for the wrong reasons.

“Did you just marry because people say marry? Look at divorce rates in Nigeria—they’re skyrocketing. Some people are already divorced before they even leave the wedding reception.”

She emphasized the importance of raising both sons and daughters with the same level of responsibility and moral guidance.

“Teach your sons that their bodies are the temple of God, the same way you teach your daughters. As soon as you impregnate a girl, no more school for you, my dear. Go and work and raise your child.”

Touching on issues of online bullying and materialism in relationships, the actress advised young women to focus less on wealth and more on a man’s character and work ethic.

“Don’t look for a rich man. Look for a hardworking man who is ready to grow with you.”

Akintola’s candid remarks have resonated with many, especially as conversations around gender roles, marriage, and societal expectations continue to evolve.
