Tragedy strikes as a lecturer from Adamawa University loses their life in a flood at an estate in Abuja.

Tragic news emerges as Philip Azubuike, a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University of Technology in Yola, Adamawa State, has been confirmed deceased after being swept away by a flood in Trademore Estate, Lugbe area of Abuja on June 23. The unfortunate incident occurred while Azubuike was in his Peugeot 406 car with the registration number YLA 681 FS.

 

His lifeless body was recovered from a canal near the estate entrance. Alhaji Ashiru, a newly assigned police inspector in the area, shared his account of losing all his belongings and joining other residents in retrieving Azubuike’s body from the canal.

Several witnesses stated that they had seen the victim struggling to escape from the flooded car before he went missing. A motorcyclist informed Premium Times, “We saw him on the top of his vehicle trying to avoid the flood, but later we did not see him again.”

Following the tragic incident, friends, colleagues, and former students took to Facebook to express their sorrow and mourn the young lecturer. One individual named Akachukuwu Agudosi wrote, “DEAR MAU STUDENTS. It’s with great grief that we announce the death of one of our lecturers, Mr. Philip Azubuike, who was one of the victims in the adverse scene of the ‘Flood in Lugbe, Abuja.’ We are tremendously saddened by your death. Mr. Pee, everyone’s favorite Physics lecturer on campus. I pray your soul finds solemn peace and rests in God’s bosom. Gaa nke ọma. Laa na ndokwa. Ruo mgbe anyị zute.”
