Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Kyiv has submitted a set of peace proposals to US negotiators outlining a possible framework for ending the war with Russia.
Speaking during a media address, Zelensky confirmed that the proposals had been sent to Washington, stressing the importance of US diplomatic and military support in influencing Moscow’s approach to the conflict.
“We have conveyed our proposals to the American side. And the United States can help strengthen our defense, first and foremost with air defense, and put pressure on Russia so that its plans are different — to prepare for an end to the war rather than prolonging it,” he said.
The Ukrainian president did not disclose the specific details of the proposals.
The diplomatic development comes ahead of an expected visit to both Ukraine and Russia by US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
The American envoys previously held talks in Moscow in January but have yet to visit Kyiv as part of the latest diplomatic efforts.
Zelensky also warned that the Russian leadership could potentially use upcoming parliamentary elections as a justification for announcing another large-scale military mobilisation to sustain its war effort.
Peace negotiations have largely stalled amid wider international tensions, while Ukraine continues to call for a ceasefire after nearly four and a half years of conflict.
Moscow, however, maintains that any binding peace agreement must include Ukraine’s complete withdrawal from four regions it claims, while also addressing what the Kremlin describes as the underlying causes of the war.
