Unidentified assailants fatally shoot nine vigilante members in a Bauchi woodland.

Gunmen have tragically claimed the lives of nine members from a local vigilante group commonly referred to as Yan Ba Beli in Bauchi state.

A member of the vigilante group informed the Daily Trust that his fellow members met their untimely demise in the Gamji village forest while on a mission to track down bandits responsible for a series of killings and kidnappings of innocent individuals for ransom in the Ningi Local Government Area of the State.

The source shared, “As the vigilantes ventured into the ambush, the bandits unleashed a volley of gunfire with more powerful weaponry, overpowering the vigilantes and resulting in the immediate death of nine members, while others sustained injuries.”

The bodies of the victims were discovered on Monday morning and laid to rest at the scene following Islamic rites.

Ibrahim Mato, the Caretaker Chairman of Ningi Local Government Area, who verified the incident, condemned the brutal killings, asserting that the government remains committed to taking all necessary measures to safeguard lives and property.
